Shopping Sustainable

eco market

A few weeks ago I was part of an Eco Pop-up shop with Borderless Creations and DD’s Den here in Tokyo. I really love the people behind both of the companies as well as their products. Here are a few things to consider while you finish your holiday shopping or do any shopping throughout the year.

The Materials

Upcycled: Are the materials from an unwanted item that is being reused?

Recycled: Are the materials created from rubbish that has been processed and reformed?

Natural and Organic: Are the materials grown free of pesticides and other environmentally harmful practices?

Packaging

Reused: Is the packaging one time use packaging saved and used again?

Recycled: Is the packaging created from rubbish that has been processed and reformed?

Biodegradable: Is the packaging something that can biodegrade or be composted?

Lifespan

Wishlist: Will the lifespan of the gift be long? Is something the person really wants and will use for a long time?

Used up: Is the lifespan of the gift limited because it is a gift that can be used up like a candle or food item?

Biodegradable: Is the lifespan of the gift low impact on the natural environment because it can biodegrade in a short period?
