Before we ever even visited Japan, we heard a story of koi swimming up river against the current. Those with the most perseverance turned to dragons.

There is something rather serene and calming about seeing these bright fish swim around ponds in traditional Japanese gardens. This is one of my attempts to capture that feeling. I used a mixture of acrylic, ink, and charcoal on scrap canvas. Mounted on Japanese paper, matted in white and framed in white washed wood.
