Where my OPEN HOUSE Started:
I started doing the open house exhibitions while living in Armenia. It is a lot of work and my husband puts up with the relocation of all of our furniture and personal belongings from the front rooms to bedrooms. With blank walls and empty floors my home becomes a gallery for one day. Because we are moving to new countries every few years, the open houses are a way of connecting with the local art scene. Images of Treachery will be my second annual open house in Harare.

Like René Magritte’s The Treachery of Images my art questions the relationship of an image and the actual object. The Treachery of Images or 'This Is Not a Pipe' humorously points out that the painted 'pipe,' though recognizable, cannot function as an actual pipe which someone can smoke. Images of Treachery is about taking objects that have lost function, and transforming them into art.
These days my art focuses on re purposing rubbish. These works use 'treacherous' material to create something aesthetically pleasing. At a deeper level, I change the way people view the material. Shredded paper and sisal grass become a foundation for figures, cardboard becomes twining for a non-functional vessel, and a rusty pipe can become a signature bangle.
