I had the third sitting with my models yesterday. I got a great deal deciphered but not all of it was good news. The Mother's features are coming into focus and I thought the baby's were as well. However, After detailing in his face I needed to see the interaction of his face with the mother's shoulder. When we got him to pause on her shoulder for a second I realized that his face was all wrong. His face is too far away from her shoulder and it should be angled down much more. The dilemma was to change his position from my original intent to salvage my current work or to scrap it all to get the position of intimacy. It took a night's sleep to face what I knew all along. His face must be scrapped and begun again. I learned the valuable lesson (again). Never over work the details before being certain of the whole composition. I have wasted time and resources but I did gain a better feel for the features and personality. Goodbye meaningless work...
